2005 Annual Quilt Show

It was the beginning of the traditional British summer: absolutely fantastic weather right until Wimbledon starts, then it is thunderstorms, fantastic lightning shows and a lot of lows (and some highs) as the British tennis players make our collective hearts stop.

The quilt on the left was the main prize for our annual raffle. Being absolutely gorgeous, it helped us raise a significant amount for our chosen charity. Our thanks to all of the girls who made it and also our wonderful helpers who made the show possible and a great success.

During the weekend we had an unprecedented attendance - over one thousand visitors through the "tent flaps" !. Not only had they come to see us, but also the amazing Rose Show competition in the adjacent tent. Precisely timed to bloom at the show, the swath of colour was something to behold.

During the weekend, Mr Squire hosts a lunch celebrating the two shows. TSQ decorate the tent with baby and incubator quilts.

Mr Squire kindly performed the presentation of prizes and rosettes to the winners.

Seen below is Paula Doyle receiving the award for "Best in Show" for her stunning "Mountain Mates". This was created with such personal fond memories for her from her times at Green Mountain.

We had a clear winner for the "Visitors' Choice" - "Bears Paws Meets Celtic" - polling over three times the amount of votes than the nearest competitor in the show.

There was even entertainment to keep the kids and grandchildren happy: this included a petting farm. Here are some of the animals.

They too had a superb show which was well attended. A small selection of their exquisite display is shown here.

The first prize for the raffle - the Rose Sampler Quilt - was won by Pat and Dale Hicks. Unfortunately they were not present when the ticket was drawn, but we managed to catch up with them later on. Riny van Akkeren is pictured here presenting  the quilt on behalf of the Thameside Quilters. At Pat's request, this was took place at their yoga class in the Maybury Centre in Woking so that the other students could see the quilt. In common with the winners, the rest of the class had bought tickets which helped us to make a significant contribution to our chosen charity: St Peter's Early Birth Centre.
