"Marjorie's Flower Garden" by Marjorie Hodges and Pam Thompson

"The large and small multi-coloured "Flower Garden" blocks were made by Marjorie Hodges of Cambridge some 24 years ago and had languished in a cupboard ever since. A little before Christmas 2005 I was approached by Tim who wondered if the quilt could be finished as a surprise for his wife, Marjorie's niece. I hadn't done much English piecing (over papers) before but said I would give it a go. 'When will it be finished by?'. 'It would be great if it could be entered into the show at Squires'. No pressure then! All the cream 'filler' hexagons were made by me and the whole of the centre square was finished by hand. Borders were added and the remaining hexagons appliqued onto these by machine. I hope the surprise is a nice one! Hand pieced to an original design based on the traditional."

"I started the quilt at a workshop with Anne Baxter. I wanted a different border so designed my own to echo the main pattern. I refer to this as my Autumn quilt - which has Spring flowers as the backing."

"A gift for a friend in the Isle of Wight where we have spent many happy/boozy weekends. Poppies were requested, so a pattern bought from Creative Textiles was used. Odd sized pieces of white on white form the background (I've not counted them). The reverse applique poppies fabric is from the Moda Marbles' Botanicals range."

"This quilt was designed to showcase the Bali fabrics i've been collecting over the years. I chose white rather than black for the sashing and borders to make it into a summer quilt. The quilting design is Falling Leaves and this was done by Isabel Hall of Compton Quilting Services."

"FIRST QUILT !! The hand pieced blocks were sewn whilst on holiday in the Lake District, August 2005. The blocks were sewn in different places - my memorable being by the lake at Keswich on a lovely sunny day. The machine quilting follows the 'trail' making a crazy paving path on the back."
