2006 Quilt Show Results - Miniature Size Quilts
The miniature quilt category always has vibrant and unusual entries, this year was no different. The quilters have again shown a great deal of ingenuity with the materials used in an exciting combination. They also show a lot of dexterity and skill in creating these masterpieces. Congratulations and really well done!.
1st: "The Sultan's Elephant" by Judy Stannard
The design was inspired by Gisela Thwaites' book "India Inspirations". I was lucky enough to do a workshop with her shortly before she died, and just loved the techniques she used to produce the slightly "over the top" effects. It was great fun to do, as I love embellishing. I even used a silk scarf from a charity shop for the elephant's body.
Hand pieced, appliqued and embellished to an original design.

2nd: "Camilla's Sisters: Connie, Chrissy and Claudia" by Sarah Nash
I loved making Camilla's sisters. As it was so tiny I could use my treasured bits of silk but I will never, ever, under any circumstances do a wavy border again. It took as long to do as the picture. Thanks to Anne Baxter for the pattern.
Machine pieced, appliqued, quilted and embellished.
