'Pompeii I' by Audrey Critchley

Best in Show: "Pompeii I" by Audrey Critchley

"This quilt was inspired by a porcelain vase (1876) exhibited in the V&A Museum, London. The decoration on the vase was based on the style of wall paintings found at Pompeii in Southern Italy. I became fascinated by the Roman hairstyles found in paintings and sculptures and used them to inform my black and white line decoration. The quilt design is machined onto the wholecloth. It is painted with screen inks and acrylic paint. I have used machine embroidery and quilting, cording and beading to give depth and texture to the piece."

An original design, machine quilted and embellished.

'Not Just Calico' by Diana Noble

Visitor's Choice: "Not Just Calico" by Diana Noble

"Preferring piecing to quilting, when I was given a Jennie Rayment book for Christmas, I regarded it as an 'origami' challenge. Using her designs, this quilt was the result. I like working with calico as it does what it's told, but also added silks and cottons. Machine pieced and quilted."

Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted, Long Arm Quilted, Traditional Design.

'Sarah's Dreamland' by Marianne Smith

Judge's Choice:
"Sarah's Dreamland" by Marianne Smith

"My cousin Sarah Jane (also my God-daughter) redecorated her bedroom and wished for a quilt in all shades of purple to adorn her bed. This is my interpretation of her chosen colours made into a Big Triangle quilt."

Machine pieced and longarm quilted by Isabel Hall.

'Oriental Log Cabin' by Jenny Self

Judge's Choice:
"Oriental Log Cabin" by Jenny Self

"Patchwork for my daughter. She is part Japanese and very intrigued by her Japanese heritage. Her bedroom is decorated with an Oriental theme, and I have made several items for her including this quilt. She is nearly grown up now, and no doubt not long from now she will move away from home. She will have something unique and handmade to start her in putting together a home of her own."

Longarm quilted by Isabel Hall of Compton Quilting Services.

1st Previous Winner: "Vegas Stacked Stars" by Paula Doyle

"I bought this fabric for the block centres at a wonderful quilt shop in Las Vegas, kept it for over a year, then made this quilt. The pattern sort of 'evolved' as I made it."

Machine pieced and quilted to an original design based on the traditional.

'Vegas Stacked Stars' by Paula Doyle

1st Challenge: "Platinum Rose" by Liz Sutherland

"A Charles Rennie Mackintosh style rose in platinum (the theme for a 70th Anniversary). I picked a rose as it seemed most appropriate for our Quilts & Roses show."

Machine appliqued and quilted.

'Cobblestone Scraps' by Sarah Nash

Best Artefact:
"Cobblestone Scraps" by Sarah Nash

"Cobblestone Scrap cushion made in a class with Ann Baxter. I love scrappy quilts. The only material I had to buy was for the surrounding. The rest I scrounged off my step mum (thanks!). They are definitely the best scrappy quilts of all!"

Machine pieced, quilted and embellished.

'Willow Star' by Paula Doyle & Isabel Hall
