Next Meeting

In March we will having a mini-workshop making Japanese Folded Hexagons, kindly provided by Isabel Hall. If you want to take part please remember to bring along your hand sewing kit, a fat-quarter of calico and two or more fat quarters of colourful printed fabrics. Full instructions and pattern will be provided.

All meetings will be held at The Magna Carta School, Staines. If you are bringing a car along, please feel free to park in their car park which is along St Paul's Road at the back of St Paul's Church. Meetings start at 7.30pm and finish approximately at 9.30pm. Please note the doors will be open from 7pm if you fancy coming along early for a natter.

The Thameside Quilters are delighted to invite both our membership and non-members to attend. Please note that there is a small fee to pay to cover insurances and facilities.

Please do not send any post to the School. If you need to post anything, please get in touch for postal address!

28/09/2009 Guest speaker: Anne Walker with talk called "Pieces of the Past"

Anne is a lifelong quilter, quilt designer and enthusiastic quilt teacher who will share her love of scrap and charm quilts.
Please note the change of date - it is not our normal 3rd Monday of the month!

19/10/2009 Guest speaker: Kathleen Laurel Sage with talk called "Extrav-organza!"

Kathleen is a freelance textile artist, designer and enthusiastic embroiderer. Her work ranges from conventional items through relief to exciting three dimensional pieces. Kathleen produces a wide range of embroidered structures which include floral vases and fashion accessories in the form of bags and unique jewellery.

16/11/2009 Guest speaker: June Hurst with "Patchwork for Christmas"

Jane will share a variety of ideas for decorating our homes and gift giving for the holiday season and teach us how to make a fabric Christmas ornament - bring your hand sewing kit, plus red and green sewing thread.

28/11/2009 Workshop: FAB "Greek Key Log Cabin Quilt" / UFO Day

Workshop "For Absolute Begineers" where you will be create a Greek Key Log Cabin Quilt - session costs £25. Plus "Unfinished Object" - cost £10. 21/12/2009 Christmas Supper, Quilt Raffle and Quilters Auction

Take a break from all that holiday cooking and join us for a jacket potato stuffed with fillings of your choice. We have a fantastic Rosebud Row quilt to raffle to raise money for our charity, the Linden Bennett School. Please bring along any quilts, quilt tops, quilt blocks, jellyrolls, or metre lengths of quilting fabric you are willing to donate for the auction, and don’t forget to bring your purse!

18/01/2010 Old Fashioned Sewing Bee and Storytelling

Bring along your hand sewing kit and a hand project of your own, or help us make a block for our "Lazy Daisy" 2010 charity raffle quilt (materials , pattern, and instructions will be provided), while listening to tales about Wagontrain Women and their Quilts by Paula Doyle.

23/01/2010 Annual Quiltathon

Come make a cuddle quilt to donate to a needy child, learn a new technique and get a free quilt pattern and free instruction from Paula Doyle as our thank you to you. This year we will be making an easy CREDIT CRUNCH quilt. Please email me for list of requirements. See Club Notices for a picture of the quilt we will be making.

15/02/2010 Guest speaker: Sandra Meech giving a talk called "Connecting Art to Stitch"

Sandra is a graphic artist and designer who transfers photos to fabric and adds light and shade with machine quilting. This talk explores the influence of art, drawing & painting, colour & composition in modern stitched textiles. Click here for Sandra's website.

15/03/2010 Mini-Workshop : Japanese Folded Hexagon Quilt - by Isabel Hall

Bring your hand sewing kit, a fat-quarter of calico, and two or more fat quarters of colourful printed fabrics (such as 1930’s prints, or William Morris prints) to get you started on making your own versions of this "must have" yummy quilt. Full instructions and pattern will be provided.

19/04/2010 AGM - "Another Great Meeting"

This is the meeting where you nominate and decide which charity we will be fundraising for in the next year, and elect new members to the executive committee. We get the business end of things done very quickly so we can get to the "Stitch and Chat" section of the evening, plus maybe a special mystery surprise? All will be revealed to those who come along!

Janet describes herself as a "painter who expresses herself in fabric through dye, paint, and stitch". Straight from her spectacular one-woman show at the N.E.C. Festival of Quilts she will be bringing along several of her stunning award winning art quilts to show and talk about. Click here for Janet's website.

21/06/2010 Guest speaker: Sheena Norquay

Sheena is an award winning quilter from the Scottish Highlands and she captures the unique features and lighting of the Western Isles in her beautiful quilts. Join us for and evening of ooo’s and aaa’s which will last you until our September meeting!

June 2010 Annual Quilt show

Regular activities at our monthly meetings include:

  • Library: Members can take books out on loan for 50p per book per month. Maximum loan period is one month. You can also ask the librarian to reserve a book for you if it is currently out on loan.

  • Raffle Basket: Basket of goodies raffled each month. Raffle tickets are five for a £1 with the winner receiving the basket of goodies on display plus £20 to use in refilling the basket for the following month. Proceeds are donated to our charity of the year.

  • Tea / Coffee: Hot drinks and biscuits are available for a small charge but please remember to bring your own mug!.

  • Photos: Current photos from Show & Tell, plus the last two Quilt Shows. Archive photos are also available at various meetings throughout the year.

  • Show and Tell: Show the group your current masterpiece and tell them what it is all about. Also great for getting good ideas !
