Tattler February 2018

Good evening members, welcome back to our first meeting of 2018.

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and you received lots of sewing goodies.

We start this year’s programme with a meet and greet evening in our new venue. Unfortunately we have cancelled the speaker and workshop due to lack of numbers so the workshop on Saturday will be a UFO day at a cost of £10 for members and £20 for non members.

The committee has decided to hold the show and tell at the beginning of each meeting unless we have a speaker as we never seem to have enough time to appreciate your hard work. This will also allow you time to admire and ask questions.

Committee members have been busy over the winter break distributing new flyers advertising our group. Hopefully we may see some new visitors so please make them welcome. Tea, coffee and biscuits are free on a help yourself system. Please also remember to wash up.

Judy and Alison have been working hard with the website so this is now up and running with lots of photographs and links to our face book page.

The committee has had a slight change in rolls so Isabel is now the booking secretary and Alex the membership secretary.

Membership renewal for 2018 is £30, please see Alex.

The signup sheets for workshops and UFO days are also available, please see Isabel.

Sheila Roberton has offered to run a sales table every month so if you have any contributions please bring them to the meetings. The group has also been given fabric, books and haberdashery from Anne Cotton which was collected over the Christmas break and which will be on sale and the proceeds will go towards the group.

Have a great evening

Moda Cake Mix Recipe

If you are like me unsure of what these are and too shy to ask never fear Thameside Quilters to the rescue.

I was very naive and thought when these were mentioned that the person was baking. At a workshop at Isabel’s before Christmas I plucked up the courage to ask the dreaded question. To be informed that the sheets were all the same and would make you’re piecing more accurate. Once sewn and cut you then arrange the piecing as per diagram to unveil different patterns. Cake Mix is for Layer Cakes and Cup Cake Mix is for Charm packs. This is such a quick way of piecing and more precise. Another tip is always measure your material before commencing as I found out. Half a metre of fabric was cut at 20 inches but a metre of fabric was cut at 39.5 inches. Another lesson learned. This I find very confusing but as I was informed 1 metre is 39.5 inches.

Workshop at Isabels

Before Christmas I attended a workshop run by Isabel and Collette. The day was amazing. Very friendly and I learnt a lot. There was no pressure to finish, it was not a race and to be fair I felt very comfortable. I have not attended a workshop for ages as I always felt under pressure as I am a slow stitcher.

As always the food was lovely and the company friendly. I highly recommend the workshops.
